Affordable Small Format Press
Small Affordable Press - Accucut   Small Affordable Press - Tippman
Description: Small presses that can be used in the house or in a small factory environment that do not have a lot of room or electrical capacity. These are relatively inexpensive presses that are for startup companies or low volume uses.

Uses:  Diecutting small format products at a relatively low cost start up. These presses can cut many materials but are limited to tonnage and size.

Styles:  Manual feed, roller style or clicker style presses.  The clicker style press runs on a common air compressor.  The roller press uses a hand crank.  There are even smaller lever style presses but these are limited in their ability to cut thick materials and the cutting area is small.

Common Users:  Home use for cutting crafts, small products such as games, doll clothing, small paper products, labels or gaskets.  These presses are limited in their ability to produce good quality creases.

Speed:  Since these are hand fed presses, typical speeds are from 200 to 400 impressions an hour.

Price:  New from $500 to $3000 US$.

Brands:  Accucut, Tippmann, Janesville Tool.
Auto Platen - Small Press

Roller Flatbed Press
Roller Press
Description: These presses are used for fast set up through cutting of a wide range of substrates and because of their ability to cut through anything that will not bend the steel rule first, are a useful low cost way to cut large substrates though this comes at a cost in terms of low production rates.

Uses:  Through cutting of a wide range of substrates from solid plastic, corplast, corrugated, rubber, carpet, thinner foams and any other substrate that will not deflect at the nip or where the deflection does not adversely impact the usability of the end product.

Styles:  Manual through feed, powered through feed, automatic feed / delivery and equipped with manually applied cutting plate, PVC cutting anvil roller or polyurethane covered cutting anvil roller. Sizes can range from 24” to 120” compression area by almost any length.

Common Users:  Display companies, automotive tier 2 & 3 OEM’s & aftermarket firms, corrugated companies, general short run applications.

Speed:  Typical speeds are from 50 – 300 impressions per hour for one operator but can be doubled with a second operator.

Clamshell Press
Clamshell Press
Description: Used to diecut large format sheets of various materials automatically or hand fed.  These presses are used for paper, plastic, corrugated and foam core.  The primary purpose of this machine is for materials that cannot be fed into high speed presses because of the thickness or large size of the material.

Uses:  This style of press is used for everything from embossing and debossing of stationary, cutting solid fiber, corrugated and plastic corrugated to being able to cut plywood. Depending on features these machines can be used for either through cutting and or “kiss” cutting.

Styles:  All known units are dual fly wheel driven and are equipped with either air clutch or electromagnetic clutch for braking. Sizes range from 11 x 13 to over 60 x 110” with tonnage ranging from 5 tons to over 550 tons. Features can be limited to exotic.

Common Users:  Limited only to imagination. An abbreviated list would include but not be limited to puzzles, die cut boxes, stable foam products, displays, etc.

Speed:  The speed of this style of machine is most impacted by the size of the substrate that is being converted. The larger the sheet the slower the process but the overall range would be 200 to 1,300 impressions per hour.

Price:  Used: $3,500- $100,000.00 ; New: $15,000- $300,000.00 US$.
